Port Lympne Wedding Photographer: Why Luxury Couples Choose Analogue Film

October 5, 2026

Weddings

I’ve been shooting weddings since 2012 and have always had my eye on Port Lympne, which is arguably one of Kent’s most distinctive wedding venues. There aren’t many places in the UK, let alone the South East, where you can get married and then, five minutes later, head out on a safari ride. If you’re looking for a Port Lympne wedding photographer, my couples usually want photography that feels original and authentic yet fashionable, so as a luxury wedding photographer I’d recommend choosing someone who can shoot on 35mm analogue film.

Why I think Port Lympne works so well on film

Although I’m yet to shoot a wedding there I have been to this venue a number of times, including staying at some of their bespoke accommodation. The main mansion is over a hundred years old and is surrounded by landscaped gardens, terraces and awesome interiors, including hand-painted animal murals. Then there is the Moroccan Courtyard that’s been particularly popular from 2026, the walled garden, the Pergola and the glass Orangery, before you even get into the wider reserve and its wildlife.

That variety is exactly what I like about wedding photography on film and what you should look for in a Port Lympne wedding photographer. It’s so diverse you can get quiet moments and character of the surroundings, then find yourselves outside in the landscape landscapes on the safari with your guests. Port Lympne even offers private safaris and animal encounters as part of its wedding experience, creating photographs that are impossible to manufacture somewhere else.

For a Port Lympne wedding photographer, there is an unusual amount to work with. The setting can be elegant and editorial one minute, completely wild and unpredictable the next. I think the best photography should embrace both.

What does 35mm film wedding photography actually look like

Unless my couples exclusively ask for film only, I shoot 35mm analogue film alongside digital photography, using film deliberately rather than applying a film effect afterwards. In today’s day and age of AI my clients are looking back at their parents and grandparents photo albums and noticing the “realness” over some of the viral fake wedding trends that have come to the surface. The medium of film carries that, especially when the physical negatives come back from the lab.

As a Kent wedding photographer, I am interested in being close to the action and framing it in a stylish yet timeless way. I want photographs that feel fashionable without becoming fake or emotionless, and documentary without lacking style.

At a venue as visually rich as Port Lympne, that balance matters. The photographs from your Port Lympne wedding photographer can be beautifully composed and considered while still feeling like your actual wedding rather than a styled shoot.

You can read more about me, or explore my wedding photography to see how that approach translates to real weddings.

Film and digital wedding photography together

I don’t believe you have to choose between the reliability of digital photography and the character of analogue film.

For most couples, I recommend combining the two. Digital allows me to photograph the day comprehensively, while 35mm film gives me the opportunity to slow down and create a smaller number of photographs with a particular atmosphere and sense of permanence.

A Port Lympne wedding photographer prioritises the important moments and distributing the rolls of film (usually 36 shots per roll!) throughout the day. That might be your couple time in the gardens, bridal prep, friends crowded around a table, or something completely unexpected that happens during the day.

I’ve written more about how I use analogue photography at weddings on my 35mm film wedding photography page.

Why I’m a film wedding photographer

My background is in fashion and editorial photography, and I’ve always liked keeping an eye on trends in current culture whilst still keeping things authentic for each couple. Weddings have always been about much more than creating something that simply looks good but that feels true to each couple.

For the record, I started photographing professionally in 2012 and have worked across fashion, portraits and weddings, with my work appearing in publications including Italian Vogue and the BBC. I think those experiences have shaped the way I photograph weddings now: I bring a fashion-trained approach to composition, light and detail, but stay close to what is actually happening. Expect me to celebrate you nearby, and the photographic memories to reflect those moments.

I photograph weddings across Kent, Cambridge and the wider UK, and I’m fortunate to be recommended by some of the best wedding venues in Kent and Cambridge. I deliberately photograph a limited number of weddings each year so that I can give each couple the level of care and attention I believe a high-end wedding deserves.

My aim is fashionable but with feeling: luxury wedding photography that has a strong visual identity without losing the people and emotions that made the day yours. I’m not interested in turning a wedding into a fashion shoot, nor in simply standing back and recording everything from a distance. I want to be close enough to the action to catch the moments as they happen, while using my eye for composition to make those moments feel considered and distinctive.

For me, 35mm film fits that approach naturally and would totally work for a Port Lympne wedding photographer. It has a physical, imperfect quality that digital photography can struggle to replicate, while still allowing me to create photographs that feel considered and contemporary.

Is film photography right for your Port Lympne wedding

If you are drawn to Port Lympne because it feels different from a conventional country house wedding venue, there is a good chance you will appreciate what analogue photography brings to it too. If you’re investing generously in an amazing venue to celebrate I think it’s worth considering the medium in which it will be captured. Thinking of photographer, videographer and or content creator, my advice is to consider how amazing it could look captured on analogue film.
