Luxury Barn Wedding in Kent in Autumn at The Old Kent Barn
March 16, 2024
I’m going to show my cards here. The Old Kent Barn is genuinely one of my favourite wedding venues in the county. So when Amy and Jordan asked me to photograph their luxury barn wedding in Kent there was absolutely no hesitation from me. I was in immediately.
Of course, visually it’s stunning. The gardens are always immaculate, the ceremony spaces photograph beautifully, and there are loads of opportunities for natural documentary moments throughout the day. But honestly, what elevates this venue beyond just looking pretty is how well the entire place is run.
The team are incredible.
I’ve photographed enough weddings over the years to know that hospitality behind the scenes massively impacts the atmosphere of a wedding day. At TOKB, suppliers are genuinely looked after, especially ones they have recommended for years. There’s always someone checking if I need anything, making sure timings are running smoothly, and yes, they always sort incredible vegan food for me too which definitely earns bonus points.
But that level of care says something much bigger.
Because if they’re treating photographers, musicians and florists that thoughtfully behind the scenes, you can only imagine how well their couples are being looked after throughout the entire planning process and wedding day itself.
That calmness filters through everything.- is one of my top 3 wedding venues in Kent, so when I got asked to photograph Amy & Jordan’s Old Kent Barn Autumn Wedding here I jumped at the opportunity.

The Best Luxury Barn Wedding in Kent is Relaxed
I think people sometimes hear the phrase “luxury wedding” and picture something overly formal or intimidating. But for me, real luxury is about experience.
It’s about people feeling comfortable.
It’s about couples actually enjoying their wedding day instead of spending twelve hours stressed about timelines, awkward traditions, or trying to impress people they barely know. Amy and Jordan’s wedding had that perfect balance. The day felt elegant and elevated, but still incredibly personal and warm. That’s always my favourite combination to photograph.

I Think Getting to Know The Couple Matters
One of the reasons I intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each year is because I genuinely want to know the people I’m photographing.
By the time the wedding arrives, I already know what matters most to my couples. I know their personalities, their worries, the people they’re closest to, and the parts of the day they’re most excited about.
But even then, the wedding itself is usually where I see them fully come alive.
Amy and Jordan were brilliant to photograph because they had huge personalities and so much love for the people around them. There was this constant energy throughout the day where everybody just seemed genuinely happy to be there.
And honestly, their guests were just as memorable.
Those kinds of weddings create the best atmosphere for documentary photography because people stop overthinking everything. Nobody’s performing for the camera. They’re just fully present in the moment. For anyone curious about what my couples love most about my photography, I’ve written a piece on why people say I’m the best wedding photographer.

Big Characters at an Old Kent Barn Autumn Wedding
What I love about Jordan and Amy was that they are big characters with a big amount of love to give. Talking about big characters, they had some awesome guests too!

Autumn Colours at The Old Kent Barn
Autumn weddings in Kent always have this beautiful softness to them.
Even when the weather is overcast, there’s still so much warmth in the colours around you. The leaves deepen, the light softens, and everything feels slightly more intimate.
At Amy and Jordan’s wedding there was one tree in particular that completely caught my eye. The leaves had turned this deep red colour and looked incredible against the softer neutral tones around the venue.
I remember thinking there was absolutely no way it would still look like that a week later.
So when it came time for group photographs, I committed to using that spot properly. Sometimes when you’re photographing at a beautiful venue it can actually be harder to decide where to shoot because there are too many good options.
The trick is making a decision and fully committing to it.
That tree ended up becoming one of the defining visual elements of the day.

What about dreary weather at an Old Kent Barn Autumn Wedding?
I think couples worry far too much about cloudy forecasts.
Bright sunshine sounds lovely in theory, but overcast weather often creates much more flattering light for photography. The clouds soften everything naturally. Skin tones look more even, colours become richer, and nobody’s squinting into harsh midday sun.
Amy and Jordan’s wedding is a perfect example of that.
The softer autumn light gave the whole gallery this relaxed and timeless feel that suited the atmosphere of the wedding perfectly.

How is everybody so relaxed?
One of the biggest compliments I hear after weddings is that the day felt calm, and honestly, that rarely happens by accident.
Part of it comes down to preparation. Every couple I work with receives a bespoke wedding timeline built around the kind of experience they actually want to have. Creating breathing room in a wedding schedule changes everything.
People linger longer in conversations. Couples spend more time with guests. Nobody feels rushed from one thing to the next.
But another huge factor is the guest list itself.
Amy and Jordan surrounded themselves with people who genuinely mattered to them. There was no awkwardness. No obligation invites. Just a room full of people who loved them deeply.
Weddings are an incredibly generous thing when you really think about it, especially the wedding photography package you choose. You’re bringing everybody you love together in one place and creating an unforgettable experience for them.
When the atmosphere is relaxed, the photographs naturally become more meaningful too because people feel safe enough to fully be themselves.
