Deal Family Photographer: Authentic Family Photo Shoot in Kent
April 21, 2026
If you are searching for a Deal family photographer, you probably either live in the area or have a close connection with this cute little seaside town. I grew up there and though I now live in Ramsgate I regularly photograph families and weddings because it’s such a special place. If I were you, I would want photographs of me and my family in a place where I loved, preferably not just taken with an iPhone. You want something that feels real and is quality enough to display on your wall. Something that reflects your family as you actually are, not a version of you stood stiffly in a field or studio being told where to put your hands.
Come join me on this gorgeous family photo shoot in Deal with the Ward family.

TLDR
If you want natural, organic family photography in Deal that feels relaxed and looks modern, I photograph families in a documentary style with a fashion-influenced eye. No forced posing just your genuine connection as you wear your hearts on your sleeves. Most of my families choose me because they want top quality printed artwork as opposed to just a phone background.

What makes a great Deal family photographer
There are plenty of photographers offering family photography in Kent. The difference is not just in the camera or the price, it is in how the experience feels and what you are left with afterwards. Each photographer is a different person at the end of the day, and you’ll feel more or less comfortable around each. What’s a good idea? Seeing if you can see their face or work beforehand and see what your gut tells you.
I actually had this “about me” video made to help my potential clients see me and my values before booking me and it’s helped a lot with the connection.
A strong Deal family photographer understands a few key things besides the best locations in the local area (as an aside, these are the best engagement shoot locations in Thanet). An experienced photographed, with kids themselves, knows that children do not perform on cue but they know how to have fun. Parents are often juggling a lot, but if you do something fun the best moments happen in between, not when everything is perfectly lined up.
Deal itself gives you so much to work with. The texture of the seafront with pebbles and not messy sand, the charm of the streets, the beach huts down towards Kingsdown. But none of that matters if the photographer cannot read a moment and capture it authentically.
My approach to family photography
I do not direct families into stiff poses. I do not ask you to smile at the camera for an hour. Gross.
Instead, as a Deal family photographer I create space for things to happen naturally. Let’s go for a walk, get an ice cream, get some chips (see how these are all food orientated? Snacks = happy children).
In-between those normal things to do I will guide you gently if needed, of course. I will place you in good light, suggest movement, and help you feel at ease. But the focus is always on interaction rather than instruction. I also love to show you on the back of the camera how lovely you look which always helps to relax the shoulders knowing that “the shot” has already been caught.
My background in fashion photography plays a big part here. I am always thinking about framing, light, and composition. So while the moments are real, they are shaped in a way that still feels modern and trendy.
It is not guided posing. It is fashionable framing of real life.
That balance is what allows your images to feel both honest and beautiful.

Why families in Deal choose wall art over digital files
Most family photography enquiries used to come to me thinking they want a gallery of digital images and that’s it. Many finish chatting to me realising they want something more meaningful.
Digital files are easy to forget. They sit on hard drives, get backed up, and then forgotten. Printed photographs live with you. They become part of your home, part of your daily life. Your children aren’t interested in looking at your phone, but for them to be able to walk past the photographs every day knowing they are loved, that’s what matters.

When families invest in a Deal family photographer, they are often marking a moment. A new chapter, a growing child, a change in life.
That deserves to be seen and remembered.
Many of my Kent family photography clients choose:
- A large statement piece for their living space
- A collection of smaller prints to tell a story
- A carefully designed album that holds the full experience
- (Sometimes) All of the above
It is not about quantity. It is about investing in the connection you dreamed about.
A real story: The Ward family in Deal
The Ward family came to me at a point of change. Emily, Jonny and Ivy had just welcomed a new addition to their lives, their dog Winnie. It felt like the right moment to document their family as it was growing and Deal was the perfect place for it.
We began at Deal Pier, a place Ivy already loved. She would often go there in her wheelchair, and it felt familiar to her. That familiarity mattered.
There was space to move, to explore, to interact.
I photographed much of this part on a wider lens. It allowed me to show not just the family, but the environment around them. The scale of the pier, the openness of the sea, the feeling of being there together.
From there, we walked through Middle Street, a place that held meaning for Emily and Jonny. It was where their relationship had started to take shape in the early days. These are the layers that give photographs depth. Not just where you are, but what that place means to you.
We finished at one of Deal’s ice cream spots, where Ivy could have her favourite treat. That small moment, choosing ice cream, sitting together, laughing, became one of the most genuine parts of the session.
There was no pressure or performance, just cherished time together.
Afterwards, the Ward family chose a large framed photograph of the three of them on the beach. They added a handful of portraits of Ivy on her own, and two family images to place around their home. They also invested in an album, something tactile they could return to, not just now but in years to come.

That is what this is about.

Locations I love for family photography in Deal
Deal offers a brilliant mix of textures and environments, all within a short distance.
The seafront is an obvious choice, but it never feels repetitive. The light changes constantly, and the openness allows children to relax quickly.
The streets, especially around the old town, bring a different energy. More intimate, more personal. Perfect for families who want something a bit quieter and more layered.
Nearby spots like Pegwell Bay offer a softer, more natural feel. Open landscapes, big skies, and space to breathe.
And if you want something slightly more structured, places like Quex Park bring greenery and variation into the mix.
The location matters, but how you use it as a Deal family photographer matters more.

Family Photo Shoot at Quex Park
A relaxed, nature-led session with space for kids to explore and families to slow down. This is ideal if you want a softer, countryside feel while still staying close to Deal.

Heirloom Family Photo Session in Cambridge
A slightly different setting, but a strong example of how I approach family photography with intention. This session focused heavily on creating artwork that would last, rather than simply building a large gallery.

Family Photography Shoot at Pegwell Bay
Open skies, coastal textures, and room to move. This is one of my favourite locations for families (and dogs!) who want something that feels both calm and expansive.

About me
I have been photographing people professionally since 2012, starting in the world of fashion before moving into weddings and family photography.
My work has been featured in Italian Vogue, and I have photographed celebrities through BBC commissions. That background taught me how to handle light in any situation and how to create images that feel intentional, not accidental, and some now call me one of the best photographers in the area.
Now, I have that same level of care into being a Deal family photographer and you’ll know that if you meet me.
I feel passionate about family and documenting those moments that matter. I am there to observe, to guide lightly, and to shape what is already happening into something that feels worth keeping.
Families who work with me tend to value that balance and can see that I value this too. They want something relaxed, but they also want it to look good on their walls.
