Sandwich Wedding Photography | A Summer Wedding Across Kent
February 27, 2024
I’m a fan when every part of a wedding day happens in one place. It usually means less rushing, fewer logistics, and more time for people to actually enjoy themselves instead of thinking about traffic, parking, or timelines. From a photography perspective, it can also help the day feel more relaxed and connected. That said, as someone who specialises in Sandwich wedding photography, I also love the energy that comes with a wedding spread across multiple locations. Different settings naturally create different atmospheres, and when it’s planned well, it gives the story of the day far more depth and personality. As long as we’re not driving three hours between venues, it’s very much a case of all systems go.
That was exactly the situation for this beautiful Summer wedding in Sandwich.
Yes, Sandwich is the name of a place.
And honestly, it’s one of the prettiest towns for wedding photography.
I’ve known the area well for most of my life. Before moving to Cambridge, I lived around ten minutes away, so places like Sandwich, Ramsgate and Deal feel incredibly familiar to me. There’s something special about photographing weddings in places you genuinely know, not just as venues, but as towns with personality, memories and atmosphere.
Before we get into the day itself, if you’d like to understand more about my approach and why couples trust me to document such an important part of their lives, I’ve written about it in why people say I’m the best wedding photographer.

Bridal Preparations In Ramsgate
The morning began in Ramsgate where Sian was getting ready at her own salon, “Sian Hair & Beauty”. Usually, Sian is the one helping people feel their best before big events, but this time she was the one in the chair, which always adds a really lovely dynamic to the morning.
One of the things I always pay attention to during bridal preparations is the atmosphere in the room. Some mornings are loud and chaotic, others are calm and emotional. This one sat somewhere beautifully in the middle. There was excitement, but there was also this steady calmness throughout the morning that made everything feel incredibly natural to photograph.
Even their daughter Willow was completely chilled during hair and make up, helped massively by Sian’s brilliant bridesmaids who kept everything running smoothly without making the morning feel over-managed or stressful.
As someone specialising in Sandwich wedding photography, these quieter parts of the day matter just as much as the big moments. The little exchanges between people, cups of coffee left half-finished, children wandering in and out of rooms, somebody helping button a dress while everyone else chats in the background. Those are the things couples often end up feeling most emotional about years later.

A Summer Wedding Ceremony In Sandwich
One of the best arrivals I’ve seen at a wedding happened next.
The entire wedding party arrived into Sandwich by double decker bus, pulling into the high street in full celebration mode. It instantly brought energy into the town and turned heads everywhere.
The weather could not have been better. Bright sunshine, blue skies and that unmistakable feeling of a proper English Summer day. Sandwich itself was busy with people enjoying the morning around the cattle market, which added even more life to the atmosphere around the ceremony.
The wedding took place at the historic Guild Hall in Sandwich, a venue that fits perfectly with the character of the town itself. There’s something about older architecture that works beautifully for Sandwich wedding photography. The textures, colours and historic details create a backdrop that feels timeless without looking staged.
As a photographer, locations like this are ideal because they don’t need overcomplicating. You can focus on real moments instead of manufacturing them.

Newlywed Portraits Along the Quay
After the ceremony and group photographs, we made our way down towards the Quay for portraits with Sian and Tom.
This ended up producing some of my favourite images from the entire day.
Beneath the willow trees, with the Summer light filtering through the leaves, everything just came together naturally. There was no need to over-direct anything. Sian and Tom were completely present with each other and that always creates the strongest photographs.
And yes, their daughter being called Willow made the location choice feel even more fitting.
One thing I always remind couples is that portraits do not need to feel stiff or heavily posed to look beautiful. In fact, most of my favourite images happen in the moments between poses, when people stop thinking about the camera for a second and simply enjoy being married.
That’s where the editorial documentary balance really comes into play. Creating photographs that feel polished and intentional while still feeling emotionally real.
At one point, we even wandered out onto the Quay itself where we spotted a young couple casually eating pizza at Luigi’s in the sunshine. It looked unreal, and honestly, it perfectly summed up the atmosphere of the day. Relaxed, joyful and full of life.

Evening Celebrations at Oddfellows Ramsgate
The celebrations then continued at Oddfellows in Ramsgate, which carried huge sentimental meaning for the family as it had once been owned by Sian’s grandfather.
I always think weddings become even more meaningful when venues hold genuine personal history rather than simply being chosen because they look good online.
You could feel that emotional connection throughout the evening.
The speeches were authentic, funny and emotional in all the right places. There was no sense of performance or formality for the sake of it. Just people genuinely celebrating two people they love.
The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric.
Sian and Tom were absolutely elated to finally call themselves husband and wife, and that energy spread across the entire room. Those kinds of evenings are always incredible to photograph because people stop holding back. The hugs get tighter, the laughter gets louder and the dance floor gets progressively more chaotic in the best possible way.

Natural Sandwich Wedding Photography
Weddings like this are a perfect reminder that you don’t need one huge luxury venue to create an unforgettable wedding day.
Sometimes the most meaningful weddings are the ones rooted in places that genuinely matter to you. A hometown high street, a family-linked reception venue, familiar streets and local memories all woven together into one story.
That’s exactly why I love Sandwich.
The town has personality, history and warmth without ever feeling forced or overly polished. It allows couples to actually experience their wedding day naturally while still creating beautiful imagery that feels elevated and timeless.
Congratulations again, Sian & Tom. It was such a privilege documenting this chapter for your family, and I wish you all every blessing for the years ahead.
