Commercial Photography at Albion House in Ramsgate

A stylish venue by the sea that’s made for weddings
Now and again, a photography job comes along that’s not just enjoyable—it’s on my doorstep and looks editorial and cool. That’s how I felt after a recent commercial shoot at Albion House in Ramsgate. I was there to photograph some of the venue’s newly styled interiors and capture its iconic exterior, perched right at the top of the hill above the harbour. The idea was simple—show the beauty of the surrounding area in Ramsgate and its bar area—but now I just want to shoot a wedding here.
As I walked through the Georgian corridors, past sash windows looking out across the rooftops and down the winding road to the sea, I couldn’t help but think: I’d totally love to photograph a wedding here.
So, while this shoot was technically a commercial one, I’m writing this blog with future wedding couples in mind too. If you’ve found yourself Googling something like “Albion House Ramsgate wedding photographer,” then hello—welcome. This post is for you.

Albion House: Grand, Historic, and Right on the Edge of the Sea
Albion House isn’t just a pretty building—it’s a proper gem. Built in the 1790s, it sits proudly overlooking Ramsgate Harbour, with a view that stretches all the way out to sea (France if you’ve got amazing eyes). The building itself is full of character: high ceilings, large windows, elegant staircases and all that crisp Georgian charm that makes it feel timeless and grand without ever feeling stuffy.
And then there’s the location. I live just down the road in Ramsgate, not far from Margate, and I’m still taken aback by the view every time I pass it. From the top of the hill, you can see everything: the working harbour, the curve of the beach, the boats bobbing about below, and the colourful buildings that dot the town. A winding road snakes its way down from the house to the harbour front—rugged, full of character, and the sort of place that makes you want to grab your camera immediately. Which I did, of course.

Capturing the Exterior: Seaside Elegance from Every Angle
The first part of the shoot was all about the outside. Albion House in Ramsgate has this elegant, symmetrical façade that looks incredible against a dramatic sky (on this occasion it was pretty overcast, but it still looked swish).
I also spent time photographing the surrounding area. There’s something really special about how Ramsgate town, the harbour, and the sea all wrap around this venue. You get this unique combination of urban textures and coastal calm—busy simple high-street, old stone walls, rough textures, and wide open sandy beaches. It’s such a rich backdrop for storytelling where I’ve already photographed an intimate winter wedding. I didn’t need to imagine a wedding couple on the beach because I had already done that. But what I was excited about was photographing a couple wandering down the winding road, the bride’s veil catching the breeze, or enjoying a quiet moment in a coffee shop in the town (hello Union).

Inside the Bar: Fashionable Design
The second half of the shoot focused on Albion House’s bar area: it’s got a sort of understated glamour—fashionable chairs, rich colours, textured walls, and a sense of curated comfort that makes it feel intimate and stylish all at once.
The interiors at the time were styled with input from Camille Roman, a wedding planner with a brilliant eye for detail. She got me on board as a recommended photographer at the Turner Contemporary. At Albion House, she helped set the tone of the space, and you could feel that in everything—from the placement of the glassware to the colour palette. It felt like somewhere between a private club and a cosy boutique hotel. It was warm, welcoming, and chic without trying too hard.
That’s a hard balance to strike, but it’s exactly the kind of environment that suits modern weddings—especially if you want something elegant and editorial, but still relaxed.

Weddings at Albion House: A Photographer’s Perspective
Now, I haven’t yet photographed a full wedding day at Albion House in Ramsgate (though I hope that changes very in 2026), but from a professional standpoint, it ticks every box. Great light, distinctive interiors, a stunning façade, and nearby locations that make portrait sessions an absolute dream.
Imagine this for your wedding day:
- Prep photos in a softly lit room overlooking the sea complete with balcony
- A ceremony in one of the beautiful Georgian salons
- Drinks in the bar with its curated styling and plush textures
- A portrait session that winds down the road to the harbour, past colourful shopfronts, under stone archways, or even down to the beach
- And a sunset moment with the sea in the background, just the two of you
There’s not many venues that offer that kind of variety in such a short radius. And because I’m local to Ramsgate, I know all the little spots nearby—the corners with the best light, the quieter lanes where you can breathe and be yourselves, and the timing of the tides and sun for those perfect golden-hour portraits.

Why My Editorial Style Suits Albion House
Before I moved into weddings full-time, I worked in fashion and editorial photography. That background really shaped how I approach photographing people— now I’m drawn to storytelling, clean compositions, and honest-but-timeless portraiture.
At a venue like Albion House, that editorial eye makes a real difference. The architecture, the interiors, the light—they all deserve to be shown with style and sensitivity. I like to maintain a documentary approach with natural, editorial portraits that feel like something from a magazine, but with all the soul. Just the two of you, being yourselves, beautifully framed in a way that will still look good when you’re old and grey.
Whether it’s a windswept moment on the hill, direct camera flash in the bar, or the quiet before you walk down the aisle—I aim to capture not just how it looked, but how it felt.

Working with Camille Roman
As I mentioned, Camille Roman was involved previously at Albion House, and she brought such a fresh and creative energy to the space. I’d absolutely love the opportunity to photograph a wedding she’s planning at Albion House (or anywhere else, frankly).
If you’re planning your wedding with her, you’re in good hands. And if you’re looking for a photographer to complement that same sense of style, detail and calm—then we might just be the perfect match.

Supporting Local
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings in Kent, especially Ramsgate and Margate, is that I get to support and showcase the places I genuinely care about. I live just minutes from Albion House and know how much love the local community has for the building.
When you work with someone local, you get more than just a photographer—you get someone who knows the light, the locations, the weather patterns, and the character of the place. And I think that makes a real difference.
Side note, I photograph couples with all sorts of interests, but if the vegan value or Christian faith is part of your vibe, they are also super important to me!

Final Thoughts (and a Friendly Hello)
If you’re planning a wedding at Albion House in Ramsgate, I’d absolutely love to be your photographer. Whether you’re going for a full weekend celebration or an intimate day with your closest people, I’d bring not just technical expertise but a genuine enthusiasm for telling your story in a thoughtful, beautiful way.
I hope this little glimpse behind the scenes has given you a sense of what the space looks like through my eyes—and perhaps what your day could look like, too.
