Stately Home Wedding Photographer | A Luxury Woodland Vegan Celebration

April 24, 2024

Weddings

As a stately home wedding photographer, these are the kinds of weddings I absolutely love photographing because they naturally create space for atmosphere, emotion, and storytelling. See, when I received an enquiry about an all vegan wedding featuring doughnuts from my favourite doughnut bar “crosstown” I jumped at the opportunity to be the stately home wedding photographer! An amazing family home, all the history the groom had living there, the grand forest and the flowers. Aside from Andy’s brother, nobody else could get married here, and that all added to the sense of occasion that feels difficult to recreate anywhere else.

This wedding combined luxury styling with a relaxed atmosphere and genuinely personal decisions throughout the day. Although it’s relatively rare for couples to host their wedding at a private stately home, this celebration showed exactly why these venues can create such an unforgettable experience.

Why a Stately Home Wedding Feels Different

One of the biggest reasons couples choose a stately home wedding is because it gives them freedom. Unlike many traditional venues, stately homes often allow you to shape the day around your personalities rather than fitting into a rigid wedding package.

Janki and Andy were fortunate enough to have access to substantial family land and facilities on Andy’s side, which allowed them to create a wedding that felt entirely their own. From the woodland ceremony space to the relaxed reception setup, every part of the day felt intentional and personal.

As a stately home wedding photographer with packages to suit, these are the weddings I find the most rewarding to photograph. There’s usually far more variety in the spaces available, which naturally creates a richer gallery. Guests can wander, relax, explore the grounds, and genuinely settle into the atmosphere rather than spending the whole day confined to one room.

Planning a Luxury Vegan Wedding at a Stately Home

Pulling together a wedding like this takes serious organisation behind the scenes. Thankfully, Janki and Andy had the help of Wedding Planner Amy at Amaranthyne, who helped coordinate the entire celebration seamlessly.

Having an experienced planner becomes even more valuable when working with private estates or family-owned properties because the logistics are often far more complex than a standard venue. You’re effectively building a wedding venue from the ground up for the day.

Power, catering, guest flow, timings, transport, weather contingencies. All of these moving parts need careful consideration.

What I loved most about this wedding was how effortlessly everything flowed despite the scale of the setup. The day never felt overly formal or staged. Guests were relaxed from the beginning, which helped create a really welcoming atmosphere throughout the celebration.

Bridal Preparations at Banyers House

Janki got ready at the beautiful Banyers House in Roysten before heading to the stately home for the ceremony. It’s an elegant hotel with plenty of character, which worked perfectly for the calm, refined atmosphere of the morning.

That said, one thing I always recommend to couples is choosing a preparation space with enough room and as little clutter as possible. Clean, calm spaces make a huge difference photographically. It allows the focus to stay on the emotions and interactions rather than distractions in the background.

Janki spent the morning with her mother and auntie helping her get ready, which made the entire experience feel very relaxed and intimate. Those quieter moments during bridal preparation often become some of the most meaningful photographs from the day because there’s a natural mix of anticipation, nerves, excitement, and reflection all happening at once.

As a stately home wedding photographer, I’m constantly observing these smaller interactions because they’re the details couples often treasure most years later.

One thing stately home weddings do incredibly well is guest experience.

When planning your layout, it’s worth thinking carefully about how guests will move throughout the day. Having dedicated spaces for different parts of the celebration helps the wedding feel immersive and natural rather than everything happening in one location.

This wedding had beautifully distinct areas for the ceremony, drinks reception, woodland walks, and evening celebrations. Guests could explore the grounds, chat comfortably, and enjoy the surroundings at their own pace.

From a photography perspective, this also creates far more opportunities for natural documentary moments. People behave differently when they feel relaxed and unconfined. Conversations become more genuine, laughter becomes louder, and moments unfold organically.

That’s always the sweet spot for me photographically.

A Woodland Ceremony with Celebrant Jamie Walker

Andy’s arrival was genuinely one of the highlights of the day. He arrived in a vintage Lotus with guests parading behind him, immediately setting the tone for a celebration that felt joyful and completely personal.

After the religious ceremony, guests walked through the woods to a second ceremony space where vows were exchanged with Jamie Walker the wedding Celebrant.

The woodland setting completely transformed the atmosphere. It felt intimate, emotional, and connected to nature without losing any of the elegance of the wider stately home setting.

Following a celebratory high five after the vows, Janki and Andy were showered with confetti before drinks and canapés began.

These are the moments I love capturing as a stately home wedding photographer because they happen naturally when couples design a day around their personalities rather than traditions they feel obliged to follow.

Authentic Couple Photography – Hold the Posing

The couple shoot itself was so dang relaxed, being the groom’s family home.

Janki and Andy didn’t need much direction from me because they were already very comfortable together. My approach to wedding photography is much less about stiff posing and much more about creating space for couples to simply be themselves.

Rather than standing people in awkward positions for long periods, I prefer movement, conversation, and exploration.

We wandered through the woods together while they chatted about the morning, reflected on the ceremony, and enjoyed a few quiet moments away from guests. Those interactions naturally create photographs that feel authentic and emotionally connected.

I’ll occasionally guide couples into better light or suggest movement, but I never want the experience to feel performative.

That balance becomes especially important at luxury weddings and stately home venues because the surroundings are already visually impressive. The photographs don’t need forced posing on top of that. The atmosphere and emotion do most of the heavy lifting naturally.

Luxury Vegan Wedding Food Done Properly

The reception featured an incredible vegan menu for guests to enjoy, proving once again that plant-based wedding catering can feel every bit as luxurious and indulgent as traditional fine dining.

Then came the doughnuts from Crosstown Doughnuts, which were an absolute hit with guests.

Living in Kent, Crosstown isn’t quite as common down here, but anywhere around London they’ve developed a bit of a cult following for good reason.

The entire wedding felt like a reflection of the couple’s personalities. Stylish without being pretentious, luxurious without feeling formal, and personal in every possible way.

Why I Love Being A Stately Home Wedding Photographer

This wedding is one I’ll always remember, not just because of the doughnuts.

It perfectly captured what makes stately home weddings so special in the first place. The freedom to create something personal, the space for guests to properly enjoy themselves, and the atmosphere that naturally comes from beautiful surroundings and thoughtful planning.

As a stately home wedding photographer, these are the weddings that allow me to document a full story rather than simply a timeline of events. Every decision Janki and Andy made reflected who they genuinely are as a couple, and that authenticity always shines through in the final photographs. Check it out, it got blogged on English Weddings!
