Helpful Tips, Weddings

Planning your wedding day in Kent is an exciting and joyful experience, I would know as I had mine back in 2018 and it has been amazing ever since. Being a wedding photographer myself, I know my enquiries can use some tips for how to choose the perfect Kent Wedding Photographer.

The thing is, one of the most critical decisions you’ll make on this journey is choosing the right photographer to capture your day. With so many talented photographers in the area, many that are my close friends, it can be hard to narrow down your options. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect wedding photographer for your big day.

Determine Your Style

Before you start researching photographers, take some time to think about the style of photography you prefer. Do you love candid, natural shots, or are you drawn to more formal, posed portraits? Understanding your style will help you find a photographer whose work aligns with your vision for your wedding day.

My style can be described as authentic + timeless. Authentic in that I help release you to have the most memorable time by being your true self. Timeless, you can look back on your wedding with as much joy now as you will in years to come. I don’t choreograph every photograph or have giant shot lists to work through, but I photograph your wedding day as it unfolds in a documentary style.

With your couple shoot, I gently give you prompts or questions to build confidence and the photographs have a luxury fashion, editorial finish without feeling artificial.

Candid and Natural?

If you love candid, natural shots, look for photographers who specialise in photojournalistic or documentary-style photography. These photographers excel at capturing the small, intimate moments that make your wedding day unique. The only potential drawback is the confidence in and around the couple time / group shots.

What about Formal and Posed?

For couples who prefer more formal, posed portraits, seek out photographers who have experience with traditional wedding photography. These photographers may do better at posing couples and groups, but could struggle with documenting authentic moments. Always be sure to check portfolios and real weddings! Which leads me to…

Research and Review Portfolios

Once you’ve determined your preferred style of photography, it’s time to start researching photographers in Kent. Check out their websites and social media pages to review their portfolios and get a sense of their aesthetic and skill level. Look for consistency in their work and make sure their style aligns with your vision for your wedding day.

Above the style, I always think it’s crucial to feel like you connect with the photographer. Knowing that the photographer is going to be with you for the length of your wedding day it’s wise to make sure you get on with them.

Check Reviews and Testimonials

Question, do the real people that booked the photographer tell of their fondness of the photographer? Or were they merely a supplier to them? Take the time to read reviews and testimonials from past clients. Pay attention to feedback about their professionalism and ability to capture the essence of the wedding day. A photographer with positive reviews and satisfied clients is more likely to deliver exceptional results on your wedding day.

Fill in the Contact Form

After narrowing down your list of potential photographers, fill in contact forms with your top choices. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and discuss your vision for the wedding day. Look to get a sense of the photographer’s personality and working style as they respond. A good connection with your photographer is essential for a successful and stress-free experience on your wedding day.

Ask About Packages and Pricing

Be sure to check your favourite photographers’ packages and pricing. Make sure you understand what is included in each package. Keep in mind how much you value photography and invest accordingly.

I guess I would categorise myself as a high-end, luxury wedding photographer as I have been in the industry for over a decade and my prices are on the high-end. I include my starting price on my website and love to incorporate the best details for my clients’ preferred budget whether it is £3k or £8k.

Trust Your Instincts

Above all, trust your instincts when choosing a Kent wedding photographer. You should feel comfortable and confident with your photographer! Ensuring that they understand your vision will help them deliver high-quality images that capture the spirit of your wedding day. Choose a photographer whose work speaks to your heart and who you feel excited to work with on your special day.

The Perfect Wedding Photographer?

I don’t think that there is any such thing as a perfect photographer – I have a number of good, trusted friends in the wedding photography industry and all of us are different people. I do think, however, that each of us will be best for different couples. This is why I value community and rejoice when couples choose me or my friends in the industry!
