Canterbury Cathedral isn’t just a wedding venue; it’s a stunning historic landmark that adds a touch of romance and traditional charm to your big day. Imagine getting married in the most iconic Cathedral in the UK! Nestled in the heart of Canterbury, this breathtaking site provides a meaningful backdrop for your ceremony even with regular building work. Although there is the option to have your reception on site, a great alternative is to party down the road at Winters Barns, a rustic barn setting ideal for a luxurious reception. Choose Canterbury Cathedral and Winters Barns for a wedding experience that combines history with aesthetics in the City.
The first recorded wedding at Canterbury Cathedral was in 1174, over 850 years ago! This iconic structure is famous for its stunning Gothic architecture, including intricate stained glass windows, the magnificent central nave, and the famous Chapter House. Although it can feel a bit dark inside, even on sunny days, the extraordinary beauty and historic charm of the venue make it a truly special place to get married. The cathedral's historical significance, coupled with its breathtaking size, makes it a truly special venue for weddings.

We are so so grateful to Tom Keenan Photography for capturing SO many gorgeous moments of our wedding day at Canterbury Cathedral & Winters Barns. From the moment of booking, Tom was in constant communication with us and was so easy to work with. We really appreciated how he took the time to meet with us to discuss the sorts of shots we wanted and to talk through timings etc. As soon as we’d booked him there was no doubt in my mind that we’d made an excellent choice!!!

On the wedding day itself, Tom and his second shooter were nothing short of brilliant! We had a separate wedding and reception venue and it was lovely to know that having two shooters meant that there was always a photographer present where we/the guests were. Tom was an absolute wizard with the lighting too, managing to get some stunning shots of our Cathedral ceremony in a setting which had extremely varied amounts of light- they looked absolutely beautiful.

We also LOVED the way that both Tom and Nisha got on so so well with our family and friends, making them laugh, putting them at ease- everything felt so lighthearted and carefree. My husband and I had such fun doing our couple shoots where we got to hang out with Tom and just be our goofy selves!!! They were easily some of my favourite moments of the day, and I think the photos show how happy we were. ☺️ Tom also worked closely with our reception venue and everything felt super organised and well put together.

Honestly we had the BEST day and Tom, we are so grateful for you!
Pick this man as your wedding photographer, you will not regret it!!!!
As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing numerous weddings at Winters Barns, and it never disappoints. The venue offers a fantastic mix of open spaces and cozy indoor areas, providing versatile options for your celebration—whether it’s for the reception or the entire wedding day. With the warm tones of the barn and the lush greenery surrounding it, Winters Barns is the ideal wedding venue, just a stone's throw from the city center. No matter the season, you and your family will receive exceptional care, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone.
If you’re considering Canterbury Cathedral for your wedding, I recommend the crypt for a more intimate ceremony, or the main Cathedral space for larger celebrations. It's a place that speaks for itself, creating a magical atmosphere for your special day. Although Winters Barns has become quite popular for weddings, it is a lovely wedding venue that always provides a fantastic experience. Both venues are great choices year-round; however, securing a date at Canterbury Cathedral requires some planning. You'll need to connect with the right contacts and navigate the church's calendar to find the perfect time for your wedding.
