What is an Editorial Wedding Photographer?

An editorial wedding photographer has developed their skills in the fashion world, blending the elegance of editorial fashion photography with the candidness of wedding moments. This style focuses on creating images that feel like they’ve come straight out of a high-end magazine, whilst still capturing the essence of the day with artistry. It's not soul-less, it's soulful and modern. Each photo is chosen to showcase not just the beauty of the event but also the emotions, fashion, and details that make the day unique.

Editorial wedding photography emphasises fashionable portraits, clever lighting, and authentic moments, all curated to tell a story that feels timeless and sophisticated. The result? A collection of images that tells of the style and heart of your wedding day, designed to be as unforgettable as the event itself.

Is Editorial Wedding Photography Right for You?

This style may resonate with you if:

  • You appreciate photos that tell a story, but look fashionable
  • You want your wedding images to look like they belong in a magazine, but without looking character-less
  • You’re drawn to photos that capture personality and natural interactions with the aesthetics of fashion
  • You love the idea of timeless, artistic portraits with a blend of spontaneity and movement

The Hallmarks of Editorial Wedding Photography

  • Storytelling with High-End Editing: Each image is part of a bigger narrative, carefully edited true to colour showcasing the most beautiful moments of your day.
  • Candid, Yet Guided: These moments aren't posed to perfection, they are of you having fun enjoying time with your loved ones. Portraits can involve me giving you some guidance if you feel you need it to relax into your true self.
  • Attention to Detail: From your gown’s intricate lacework to your grooms tousled hair, nothing is overlooked.
  • Artful Composition: With an eye for lighting (flash if needed), background, and composition, each photo feels like an original work of art.

How Does Editorial Photography Compare to Other Wedding Photography Styles?

Choosing the right photography style is key to how your wedding story will be told. Here's how editorial wedding photography compares to other popular styles:

1. Editorial Style:

Editorial wedding photography blends artistry and storytelling, curating your day into a series of images that wouldn’t look out of place in a magazine. It’s a balance of posed, directed shots and candid moments that reflect the true emotions of the day. This style is perfect for couples who want a balance of cool portraits and spontaneous real images.

2. Documentary Style:

In contrast, this style focuses on capturing moments as they happen, without posing or direction. The result is an authentic, candid view of your wedding day, filled with raw emotions and spontaneous interactions. It’s ideal for couples who prefer a hands-off approach and want their photos to feel natural, candid, and true to life. 3. Traditional Style:

Remember your grandparents wedding photographs? Traditional wedding photography leans on formal, posed shots as the main reason for hiring a photographer. Focusing on ensuring that key people (like family portraits and the ceremony) are captured with uniformity. This style is best suited for couples who want a structured, predictable outcome.

4. Fine Art Style:

Fine art photography takes a more creative, artistic approach, often featuring very bright, romantic images with a focus on highlights, texture, and composition. This style is carefully crafted, blending artistry with a cinematic feel.

Behind the lens

I’m an editorial wedding photographer in the UK. I am based in Kent and shoot weddings in the South East, East of England and London.

My career started as a fashion photographer where I worked in studios, crafted fashion shoots, worked for modelling agencies and even had some photographs in Italian Vogue's "Best Of" section. Alongside the fashion world I shot editorial stock imagery where I had to consider cropping for magazines. This has heavily influenced my approach now as a wedding photographer with an editorial style.

With every couple I work with it is the real moments that I look for, and make them look cool. You can see the way I work is timeless and authentic, with an editorial flair. If you like this unique approach then let's connect.

Top 5 Things I Focus On During Your Wedding Day

1. Building a Genuine Connection

A wedding day is filled with intimate, unscripted moments that are best captured when everyone feels comfortable. I take the time to build a genuine rapport with you and your guests, blending seamlessly into the celebration. This connection allows me to capture candid, heartfelt moments that reflect the true emotions of your day.

2. Perfect Timing, Every Time

Years of experience have sharpened my ability to anticipate key moments before they happen. Whether it’s a tender glance between you and your partner or a burst of laughter from your guests, I’m always in the right place at the right time to capture those fleeting, magical instances. Additionally, booking a second shooter with me is easy to add to any wedding package for multiple angles.

3. Capturing the Essence of Love

Every wedding is a celebration of love in its purest form. I focus on capturing those intimate exchanges — from the vows to the first dance — ensuring your photos reflect the depth of emotion and connection between you, your partner, and your loved ones. Long lists of group shots can affect the mood of your day, so my priority is to help you enjoy every moment by photographing you as you live it.

4. Weaving Your Wedding Story

Your wedding day unfolds like a story, and my goal is to create a visual narrative that you can relive for years to come. Through my lens, I focus on documenting not just the key moments, but also the subtle interactions that bring your story to life in a natural and timeless way.

5. Energy in Motion

From the first dance to the energetic flow of the reception, I capture the movement and joy that make your day special. My goal is to document the spontaneous and fun-filled moments, turning them into lasting memories that bring the energy of your wedding day back to life every time you look at them.
